Abstract Figurative
My abstract figurative work is a modern take on classics. With the ballerinas, I paint an abstract underpainting — throwing paint, adding paper, layering colors with sanding and scratching. Then I paint a top layer with negative painting techniques to reveal portions of the abstract below. My paintings on tile are done on marble slabs, with the translucency of the skin being the natural material itself. The juxtaposition between the abstract painting and the luminance creates an interesting and beautiful effect. My figurative collages are done with ink and paper, with movement of the figure executed with a few bold lines. The patterned, handmade papers take center stage.
